Gerry Hyde

Dr. Gerry Hyde was auditor of the 145th Session of the Philosoph. He was the convenor of the 1996 World Universities' Debating Championships, held in Cork, having previously competed at Princeton Worlds. An alumnus of Coláiste an Spioraid Naoimh, he won the Munster Schools' Debating Competition and the All-Ireland Schools' Debating Competition in the 141st Session. He also won the Irish Times Debating Competition in 1995. He is an Honorary Life Member.

Dr Hyde completed his doctorate in the area of physical chemistry at St. John’s College in the University of Cambridge. He currently teaches Physics and Chemistry as well as coaching debating at Colaiste an Spioraid Naoimh in Bishopstown.
